Book Beginnings/Friday Book Blog Hop
Book Beginnings on Fridays by Rose City Reader - Share the opening sentence (or so) of the book you are reading this week. You can also share from a book that caught your fancy, even if you are not reading it right now.
"You will rejoice to hear no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise which you have regarded with such evil forebodings." - Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Q: What novel would you recommend that blends characteristics of your favorite genre with horror concepts, and why? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
A: I'm going to have to go with Frankenstein Or the Modern Prometheus by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley It's a science fiction and horror in one. I love the history behind it, that it was basically written on a whim. Even more so, I love that it portrays the hubris of man, the flaws in a patriarchal society, with feminist undertones. There's nothing like a good story with good themes.
Can you name a story with solid themes? What were the themes?
I have not read either of those books. I don't read horror. Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHorror is not for everybody
DeleteOoh nice! Frankenstein is still one of the classics I want to read at some point. It's in my TBR pile...somewhere. I need a better organization system for that. You'd think I'd be better at that, but since my books are in storage and basically all over, I have to live with it not being organized until I can find my own place. But yes, still want to read this one at some point.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my BBH!
It's really worth the read!
DeleteI don't think I've actually read it, but it's such a well known story, that I have an idea of what happens. Great pick! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading to you too! :-)
DeleteFrankenstein was an amazing read. I shied away from reading it for so long---would it be hard to get through, I wondered---and when I did finally read it, I wished I hadn't waited.
ReplyDeleteI put off reading it too! classic lit is usually wasted on me and i was afraid i wouldn't like it. but i wound up loving it instead.
