And even though I love the fall, I’m always sad to see summer go. My blog became a bit stale in August. I did one review and it was my only post: Two Little Girls in Blue by Mary Higgins Clark I’m blaming the book I’m currently reading: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker . The writing is beautiful but the plot is a slogfest as nothing is happening and the characters appear to be going nowhere in a hurry. I hate to DNF a second book this year, having already bailed out on Hidden Pictures , but if the point of this book doesn’t materialize soon I’ll have to move on to something else. This month’s weather report on last month’s weather: We had a small heatwave the first week; that kind of heat that sucks the breath out of you like a vacuum when you go outside. But the rest of July was simply beautiful. Sunny days that were spent out at the barn with my best girl, and warm nights by the firepit. Occasional rain here or there; not enough to end the drought, sadly, but just enough to get me out of having to water the plants. The firepit hang out spot is getting dangerous though, lol. A pair of skunks have been passing through the yard habitually around 8pm, and one night they were even curious enough to walk up to us and have a look. I normally do a weather report for the past month, but June was perfectly normal weather-wise, and I’d rather state the obvious that the first few days of July were flippin’ hot. And not just in the Northeast, across the country. So I hope everyone is drinking plenty of fluids and respecting their local fire and water bans and regulations. Sometimes all of the above on the same day. I couldn’t figure out if I should wear long sleeves or short. My butterfly/hummingbird garden has started to grow and I planted some annuals for filler; I think we’re well past the point of frost at the very least. It’s probably warm enough for me to store away my long-underwear too. I’m super excited that I’ve had so much time this year to read some great stories. We got a heatwave of 80 degrees and then we dropped right down to a more normal 50-60 with rain. It is environmentally concerning, but at the same time, I’m so ready for the summer heat. I did manage to post for every letter of the alphabet, and I tried to visit all of those who visited me, but I didn’t have the time I wanted to visit every blog I wanted. We had a heat wave, the temperature spiking from 30 to 70 almost overnight paired with a couple rainy days, and 30-something inches of snow just vanished. But the week of warmth gave way to cold weather again, just as quickly as it came...But Spring is here and the warm weather won't be far behind. My blog is finally getting a little more action; that is to say I've been posting again and gone back to responding to comments. Everything was closed, there was a travel ban, and it took about two days for us to shovel out. I think the weatherman said before the storm we'd be getting about two feet, I think we got more than that... Someone said they thought we got 37 inches? But I'm not sure on our exact measurement. And it was on top of the snow we already had from a couple of weeks ago, so we have a lot of snow. My blog has really taken a boring turn, not that it was so exciting before. My month of December contained very little reading so I don't really have anything to share on the final month of 2025. Instead, I'm going to jump right into my yearly recap. 2025 In 2025 I gave myself two challenges: My Good Reads Challenge was to read at least 12 books, and my second challenge was to participate in the Pick Your Poison Challenge (a challenge that was discontinued this year) by reading at least 13 books off the list of subjects.
