Reading Slump?

I think I’m in a reading slump. I can’t make it further than the 50% mark in any book I read. The Golem and the Jinni was just the start as it turns out. Or maybe the start was Hidden Pictures when I decided the characters were too unlikable to care about. I’m not sure. I’m also stalling out on both The Reformatory and Shield of Sparrows even though there’s nothing wrong with either story.

Usually when this problem occurs, I can’t pick up a book to start it, so it’s weird that I’m starting them but not reaching the finish line. Often this problem is solved (for me) by re-reading a book I previously enjoyed to get the juices flowing again. I may take a detour from unread books in my collection to do just that.

But the whole thing is very unfortunate timing. I just recently decided I read so much I might enjoy Kindle Unlimited (which is how I got Shield of Sparrows) and now I’m not using it.

I’ve already decided that I’m looking for something light and fluffy to read which will narrow down my options, but I’m still going to stare at my bookshelves as if I don’t have a clue what I’m in the mood for.

I’m hoping my slumpishness will be broken before October’s end so I can finish The Reformatory and get a review posted by Halloween, but maybe reading a horror novel for this month just won’t be in the cards for me. Reading horror novels in any other month just aren’t as fun but I’m sure I’ll finish it eventually. It is pretty good.

That’s what’s going on with me and now I’m off to me bookshelves to pick something out.

Have you ever been in a reading slump? How did you break through?
