The Sunday Post
Happy Sunday! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your weekend.
The Sunday Post is a news meme created by Caffeinated Reviewer. I'm also linking up with Sunday Salon at ReaderBuzz. I will be posting on the first Sunday of each month and I hope you'll join me.
That super ridiculous amount of snow we got hit with last month is already gone. We had a heat wave, the temperature spiking from 30 to 70 almost overnight paired with a couple rainy days, and 30-something inches of snow just vanished. But the week of warmth gave way to cold weather again, just as quickly as it came...But Spring is here and the warm weather won't be far behind.
My blog is finally getting a little more action; that is to say I've been posting again and gone back to responding to comments. The A-Z Challenge has finally begun, and while I enjoy blog hopping, I'm a little wowed to think of how much prep-work I put in for it to all be over in a month. The idea for this year's challenge was to post bookish topics, but when doing my final read through of my posts I realized some of them weren't very bookish at all. At the very least, I hope readers can connect with my topics on some level.
For the month of March I read:
- Sparking Fire Out of Fate by Brigid Kemmerer
- The Brides of Maracoor by Gregory Maguire
- The Night Ship by Jess Kidd
- What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher
I liked The Brides of Maracoor so much that I wanted the whole set so I ordered The Oracle of Maracoor and The Witch of Maracoor off of Barnes&Noble online store, and since I was doing some shopping I also ordered Two Twisted Crowns because I want to see how that duology ends. Even online I can't buy just one book. I discovered via Amazon that John Ajvide Lindqvist had a new thriller out called The Writing in the Water, and I just had to have it so now that's sitting in my Kindle.
While I wasn't a particularly big fan of Interview with the Vampire, my opinion of it was that it read like a how-to guide to become a pedophile, my current read is The Vampire Lestat. I would like to get at least as far as Queen of the Damned (probably not this year, but who knows?) just because I loved the movie.
While I try to keep my blog a mixed bag of nuts, I'm actually itching to finish the Speccy Challenge. It's given me some inspiration to read fantasy and science fiction, so my blog is going to become a little Speculative-themed over the next few months. I hate to say that other genres may take a back seat this year. And in case anyone out there is curious what I've read toward the challenge so far, I created a page on my blog dedicated to tracking my progress.
I like that. "Ambition instead of impulse control." I'm going to use that. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't help it sometimes, theres just too many good books out there.
DeletePersonally I look at A2Z as an opportunity to follow new bloggers I like, not just pop in for the challenge. I have probably followed about 25 new blogs in the past week (including yours)!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the rain right now, lots of it. Let it rain! My house is safe from flooding, cross my fingers.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad to have inspired you though you’ve made a strong start on the Speccy Fic Challenge already. Don’t forget to add your reads to the Linky!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Someday I'll do the A-Z Challenge again. I did it once, and it felt like a fulltime job. It took so much research and blogging! Good luck with it.
ReplyDeleteMy March was kinda "meh." Although I must admit that it beats the alternative of "holy crap."
ReplyDeleteI thought I was going to do the A-Z Challenge this year, but then I got so busy in March I didn't have time to prep for it. Next year!
ReplyDeleteI plan to work on the Speccy Fic Challenge this month.
Haha, I like the ambition rather than lack of impulse control framing... you and I both. May we have a good time fulfilling our ambitions!
ReplyDeleteYou had some crazy weather! At least the snow has melted. I like the idea of ambition rather than impulse control, too! Haha! Hope you find some great sci-fi reads for your challenge!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing when I'm ahead of my reading challenge.
ReplyDeleteI just started an audiobook which will count for the Speccy challenge, but I think it is going to take me a while to finish.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
