B = Books

"There are some awful things in the world, it's true, but there's also some great books." -Jo Walton, Among Others

Okay, so not a very imaginative B for a book blog, but that's why I'm here: Books.

Beautiful, bountiful, books.

A book is a dream recorded.

A book is an adventure waiting to be had.

A book is a hero undiscovered.

And a villain just a little bit bad.

Okay, so poet I am not. But there are a lot of things to like about books. They can offer education. From a baby’s ABC book to your childhood textbooks to how-to manuals… Like how-to build that cabinet from IKEA, books journey with us every step of the way, even if we don’t like them.

And if you do like them a whole new world opens up to you, or should I say worlds? Because the best part about books is their ability to take you somewhere new.

With so many genres - spine tingling horror to the warmth of fairytales, to contemporary fiction with cities as familiar as the one you live in, to the strangeness of an exotic lands located in high fantasy. You can travel to far off galaxies in a sci-fi novel or to the past in historical nonfiction – there is a book for everyone.

Let’s not forget that new book smell.

I’m thankful that something as beautiful as the written word exists.

Do you like books? What kind of stories do you like to read? If you don't like books, why not?

  2. A book is my license to go wherever I want and do whatever I want. They're kinda cool that way.

  3. Books is a popular topic for today, I'm noticing. For good reason. (I went with "behaved", but I'm not writing about writing.)

  4. Books are one of my favorite things ever! I read mostly mysteries, or suspense. Not horror suspense. My education is in library technology. I can't understand anyone who says, "Oh, I don't read. Haven't since I had to in school." Not my kind of people!

    1. Mysteries are good, i like whodunit types. I blame the school system for churning out students who hate reading. I remember some of the required books were kind of blah. They should let students choose their own books.

  6. I like books and I always have. While I try to read a variety of genres, I find myself circling back to historical fiction and mysteries.

  7. Reading and writing are my world. I have many hard copy books, but I am increasingly going over to e books because of my eyesight.

  8. Books are the best. When I was a kid, I loved reading so much that I read all the books in the school library and had to begin borrowing from the grown up part of it ;)
I also once said that if there were no books to be had I'd have to write some just to have something to read.
