The Sunday Post

Happy Sunday! I hope you're all having a great weekend!

The Sunday Post is a weekly news meme hosted by The Caffeinated Reviewer. I'll be posting on the first Sunday of each month and I hope you'll join me.

I swear it has rained every weekend since my last Sunday Post. I couldn't hold off working on my garden any longer, so I worked outside in the wet and dreary weather when I usually spend those days in my rocking chair with a book.

But it's the first day in June and June is a very busy month (and usually beautiful, so here's hoping). Father's Day is headed our way, as is mine and my brother's birthdays, and the annual family vacation. Hopefully the vacation is rain free because I don't want to be trapped in a hotel room for the better part of a week.

It does look like I'm reducing my reading time to one book a month right now, having taken most of May to finish Circe by Madeline Miller, which wasn't that big a book. I've stopped working the OT to make some time for my horsey and my side gig (and for some reading of course). I just finished a thriller called The Whisper Man by Alex North and that will be my first post of June so check back tomorrow if mysery/thriller is your cup of tea.

My reviews for the month of May included:

I do need to get out to the bookstore with my Barnes&Noble gift card to pick up some beach reading, most of my current reads are e-books and I'm not taking my reader to a sandy beach, no way. So my long Currently-Reading list will get longer, but my To-Be-Read list will get shorter. But two of my most recent Currently Reading e-books are Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and 1984 by George Orwell. They're controversial classics that I've always wanted to make time to read and I thought I ought to get a move on it before Trump decides to ban them. I try to avoid political posts because they can offend half your readers, but there I said it anyway.

How are things in your neck of the woods?

  1. There's wait list for Circe at the library, but I put a hold on it from your recommendation.

    1. I liked the ending didn't leave me as wrecked as Song of Achilles, even though I think SoA is probably the stronger book. I agree, she's a great author.

  3. Fathers Day. Cool. I need a tie. Okay, not really.

  4. I hope the weather improves for you and that it is perfect for your upcoming vacation. Happy early birthday to you and your brother! My husband's birthday is this month too. I need to read The Book of Lost Things. It's been on my TBR for quite a while. Then I can get to The Land of Lost Things. I am so glad you enjoyed Circe. Romanticized as it may be, I loved Miller's version of Circe. I hope you have a great week and month of June!
