Top Ten Most Anticipated Books

Today's Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by ThatArtsyReaderGirl, is Most Anticipated Books Releasing in the First Half of 2025.

I, for the most part, haven't got a clue about upcoming novels or debuts or anything of that sort, unless it's for an author I habitually stalk. Today what I'm going to do instead is recommend the Top Ten ARCs I read last year. I didn't read ten of them, but I did read 7 & 1/8 (I'm not going to recommend the 1/8).

1. What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher The sequel to What Moves the Dead an Edgar Allen Poe inspired series. It doesn't count toward this year, it actually came out in 2024, but if you like gothic horror you might like these books.

2. Salem's Cipher by Jess Lourey A mystery/thriller in the style of The DaVinci Code, Salem a cryptoanalyst and her best friend Bel, are trying to crack a code to bring their kidnapped mothers home.

3. A Killing Cold by Kate Alice Marshall A woman marrying into an affluent family finds herself unwelcome, trapped on a mountain, and discovering secrets her soon-to-be-in-laws want to keep quiet.

4. Flyboy by Kasey LeBlanc A young adult novel, where a closeted trans boy is transported to a circus in his dreams.

5. Black Woods Blue Sky by Eowyn Ivey Eowyn Ivey proves herself the master of folktales in this Beauty and the Beast inspired story of life in Alaska.

6. Elphie: A Wicked Childhood by Gregory Maguire Companion novel to the famous Wicked, Gregory Maguire brings us the story of Elphaba's childhood.

7. Carving Shadows into Gold by Brigid Kemmerer Sequel to Forging Silver into Star Jax, Tycho, and Callie are back to continue their tale of romance and intrigue in this fairytale.

What books are you looking forward to releasing this year?

  4. I had no idea that Maguire was writing a prequel to Wicked - that's definitely interesting, especially with all the hype with the movie and musical.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

    1. I'm a Wicked nerd, so I went out of my mind when it popped up on Netgalley.

  5. I'm very intrigued by Black Woods, Blue Sky (I love folktale type stories) and I've just added A Killing Cold to my TBR thanks to your list. I'm curious about a couple of the others, including the Elphie one, but I'm not sure if I'd be better off reading Wicked first 🤔

    1. oh definitely read Wicked first, it's the better book imo, and GM makes some references to Wicked that might make more sense if you read it first.

    2. Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely do that. How did you find the other sequels (if you read them)?

    3. I did read the sequels to Wicked; I found them really entertaining but without as much substance as the first. GM writes them as if it's a place he wants to live, he definitely had a vision, but he didn't really achieve the same level of excellence.

I haven't read his follow up trilogy yet, (I'm having trouble finding them at my local bookstores and want them for my collection), so I can't comment on those yet.

    4. That's interesting to hear. At least the world should be pretty magical then. It's a shame they weren't as good as the first but it's nice to learn that the series is worth checking out as I've never really heard much about it

I was going to say I hadn't heard of those but I checked and if you mean The Brides Of Maracoor it does sound familiar. I hope a store near you ended up stocking them soon. Given the popularity of the movie and the addition of another book within the world it could happen 🤞

  6. OOh nice! I can't wait to read Marshall and Kemmerer's books as well! I love Marshall's YA thrillers and have read one of her adult ones so far and enjoyed that too! Excited to get back to this series of Kemmerer's as well!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

    1. I didn't know Marshall did YA, thats interesting. BK really knows how to create swoon-worthy and heartbreaking moments in equal doses.

  7. A KILLING COLD sounds good, but my history with Marshall is hit and miss, so I don't know if I'll take a chance on another one by her or not...

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

    1. I can see that. I'm so so with mystery to begin with, so an author has to be really engaging.

  8. I like the sound of Salem's Cipher with its Da Vinci Code vibes. Hope this year you get to read more ARCs and wonderful books.
