Friday's Book Beginnings and Blog Hop on Saturday

Book Beginnings on Fridays by Rose City Reader - Share the opening sentence (or so) of the book you are reading this week. You can also share from a book that caught your fancy, even if you are not reading it right now.

"Zodiac's unmasked features first came into focus one blazing summer day upon the crystal face of a watch." Zodiac Unmasked by Robert Graysmith

I'm reading my first true crime novel this month. I had tried to get a copy of the original Zodiac book, by the same author, but they haven't adapted it to an e-book format, and I downloaded this from my library instead.

Q: January is National Hobby Month. Do you have any pastimes or interests other than reading that go well with your love of books and literature? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

A: Oh, boy, do I have pastimes. I do counted-cross stitch and that takes up a lot of time, I have an embarrassing stack of adult coloring books that I bought during the craze, I like to make my own jewelry, and I'm teaching myself how to paint. I also do laundry, I don't know if that counts, but you can let me know if it does in the comments section.

Then there's my other passion: horses, horses, horses.

I've been riding for over 20 years, and while I don't consider it a hobby as much as a life choice, it certainly pairs well with reading material. I think for Christmas, I've been gifted every horse encyclopedia that exists. I've also read biographies of famous horses, instructional books on proper riding techniques and basic horsemanship, and informative books on hoof care and the best way to braid manes.

  1. Those are wonderful hobbies. I cannot do counted-cross stitch or any kind of sewing. :) I have tried coloring - it is fun!!

Thanks for coming by my blog.

  2. Oh nice! Those are great hobbies! Once I can get caught up in my reading--as I am off to a rough start with my Goodreads challenge just in this first week (darn cold!), I'm hoping to finish up my diamond art project. Then maybe start on my adult coloring book I bought myself over Christmas shopping for a secret santa gift! Lol.

    Thanks for visiting my BBH!

  3. I am not familiar with Zodiac Unmasked but it sounds interesting! I like that cover.

I love that you love to ride horses! The extent of my horse experience was spending one summer at horse camp. I was assigned a horse named Sioux and she was the sweetest. I ended up spraining my ankle near the end and couldn't ride her, but I spent as much time as I could with her, even if it was grooming her and cleaning her stall. I love to color but it's been so long since I last did. It's a great activity to do while listening to audiobooks--or so I keep telling myself. LOL

I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. that's a shame that you couldn't ride, but its nice you found so many other ways to spend time with her. I don't listen to too many audiobooks, i have trouble concentrating on them, but i do like to play music with my other activities.

      thank you for visiting!

  4. I love horses too! It's been years since I was last around one, and have only rode a few times, but I've always loved them. And with as much time and effort that goes into doing laundry, it should be a hobby! That and maybe dishes. 😂
