Friday Book Beginnings and Book Blog Hop

Book Beginnings on Fridays by Rose City Reader -  Share the opening sentence (or so) of the book you are reading this week. You can also share from a book that caught your fancy, even if you are not reading it right now.

"On the White House roof, tucked into a corner of the Promenade, there's a bit of loose paneling right on the edge of the Solarium. If you tap it just right, you can peel it back enough to find a message etched underneath, with the tip of a key or maybe a stolen West Wing letter opener." Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I just finished my first romance novel Red, White & Royal Blue. It was cute. Maybe someday I'll read another one.

Q: Do you prefer to read series one book after another, or can you read other books in between? (submitted by me, Idea-ist @ Get Lost in Literature)

A: I prefer to read a series one book after another, but sometimes that's not possible if the sequel hasn't been released yet, or perhaps there's a financial constraint and it's not available at the library... A lot of times if there's a long spell in between book releases, I'll reread the series in preparation for the upcoming release of the next installment.

  1. I am a big series reader and am always starting new ones (not finishing them is my problem. LOL). I jump between series and stand alones because I like to mix things up and avoid burn out--and also for the reasons you mention. There are times though when I do read series back to back, just usually not an entire series unless it's a short one. I sometimes re-read for the same reason as you, but that's a fairly new practice for me so not something I have done often. I hope you have a great weekend--and thanks for the question idea this week!

  2. I am more or less the same! Occasionally there are series I am up to date with and I read them as they release, but I can probably count on one what those series are...and I am currently behind in them so I guess it doesn't really matter! Lol. I prefer the binge reading for memory purposes but am not opposed to reading as they release.

    Thanks for visiting my BBH!

    1. A binge read has its merits, aside from mmemory purposes, i think its fun to get lost in another world for awhile.

    1. I didn't know there was a second one, but i probably won't read it, because the first one was fine as standalone...I can't imagine why a sequel would be needed.

  4. I like to read series too. I will usually read all the books if I have them. There are times I will read a book in between if the next one is not released yet or if I have review books to read.

  6. I enjoyed this one, but I think One Last Stop is my favorite from this author.

  7. That sounds like a cute book. I have seen it around.

I used to read one after the other, now I have Blog Tour deadlines (that I enjoy 😂). It is crazy the length of time in-between books. It seems to get longer and longer or maybe it's just me 😂

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I don't know if I could ever read on a deadline. What would happen if I didn't like the book?
