The Sunday Post

Happy Sunday!

The Sunday Post is a weekly news meme created by Caffeinated Reviewer. I will be posting on the first Sunday of each month and I hope you'll join me.

The weather for the month of October was chilly, colder and damper than I remember of last year's October. Windier too. The leaves dropped off the trees like orange bolts of lightning. I'm wondering if it's a sign of the winter to come.

The books I read in October were theme reads because Halloween is my favorite holiday. So today my review list presents a lovely assortment of witches and murderers. Books I reviewed in October were:

In other news, someone stole my blog layout, and I'm not inspired to change my blog to accommodate the theft. I like the blues, blacks, and grays, I like my banner, I like my choices. I'm not sure what led this person to me, unless it was my recent joining of X(Twitter) to promote my blog. I don't think my blog is all that spectacular to be worthy of stealing so I guess I should be flattered by the little copycat. And upon observing this person's blog, what's even more baffling is that they appear to be capable of creating their own content, so why not choose their own look? And despite the theft of someone else's style, they appear to have generated a following bigger than my own, so I imagine the content must be good. But I guess for now we'll be twins in the book blogosphere and that's just the unfortunate way it is.

On a more positive note, I received an ARC for Carving Shadows into Gold by Brigid Kemmerer (due out 1/28/2025) and I'm so excited to have it! I adored book one in the series, Forging Silver into Stars. I'm just disappointed I'm not supposed to share my review with you until January (review scheduled for January 6).

I also received a copy of Stars and Soil by Dax Murray, that review should be posted this month, but I'm not sure when just yet.

And I think that's everything that happened in the month of October.

In a spur of the moment decision, I've decided to participate in NaNoWriMo with a novel I've been plucking away at for over a year. For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, a challeng to write 50,000 word in a month. I thought it might be fun to pluck away with other writers, but it will probably limit my blog time.

How was your October? Have you ever done NaNoWriMo?

  1. I would think that stealing the blog layout is a compliment. My layout is self-designed but I picked up the idea from a very popular bookish theme that many people have. Honestly, I would have paid for the design but I can't use it on wordpress.com (you need .org for that) so I just figured it out. The only thing is that I use my own colors, you would have thought that the thief would have chosen some unique aspects to them.

    Good luck with NaNoWriMo!

  2. I never participated in NaNoWriMo, but I've thought about it. Good luck with it. Have a great week!

  3. My design is custom, but yes others have copied it. I wouldn't change yours. I like it.

  4. Parts of my blog have similarities to others, particularly the blog I reviewed for which shut down, The Book Nympho. Because I use Ultimate Book Blogger, some aspects are similar format, but I do have my own graphics and memes (with their own graphics).

Weird about your October weather. I'm not sure where you are. I'm in North Carolina and it's been warmer and drier than usual. I'm sort of dreading a drop to normal in November because it would be a bigger drop in temperature because October was warmer. but it never gets cold here compared to when I lived in Minnesota.

    1. blogger offers a ton of generic layouts so i'm sure theres always going to be repetitive looks, but people should want their own graphics.

i'm in new england, and we had a bit of a heatwave just in time for halloween, but it dipped down to 29 last night...

  5. Someone stole your layout? That's so strange! There are so many different layouts out there, there should be enough to go around. How irritating.

  6. How bizzare about someone copying your blog layout. Isn’t it said that copying is the highest form of flattery? 50,000 words in a month? Whew! That would be extraordinary.

    1. i highly doubt i'll make it to 50000, but at least i'll be actively working on my book a little each day, which i should be doing anyways but sometimes its tough to find motivation after work.

  7. Almost all my blog layouts have been pre-made blog themes from the webhost sites. I bought a popular blog theme some years ago for my business website, and it's been so versatile that I've used it for every other blog since. I definitely think it's a compliment if someone is emulating your blog layout!
