2026 Challenges

I was looking for a yearly reading challenge that I’d be able to complete in a year, and I found the inaugural Speccy Fiction Challenge hosted by Book’d Out. The rules say, “It allows you to choose from the genres of fantasy, science fiction, and horror, (though the focus is skewed towards the first two), and their myriad of subgenres.” And since I read a crapton of fantasy, I thought this might be an achievable challenge.

There are 4 levels/goals: Spectator who can set their own goal, Squint read and review 3 books from 3 categories, Stare is 6 books, and Survey is 12. I’m aiming to at least achieve ‘Stare’ and read 6 books from 6 categories, but if I make it to 6 with time to spare, I’m going to try to get to 12.

CATEGORIES:

  1. Published in 2026
  2. A speculative novella (less than 250pgs)
  3. A translated speculative novel
  4. The first book in a speculative fiction duology/trilogy/series
  5. Romantic speculative fiction
  6. Speculative fiction that features a creature (animal/monster)
  7. A cozy fantasy novel
  8. Dark Fantasy
  9. A fantasy based on myth, legend or folklore
  10. A scifi that takes place on a spaceship or space station
  11. Dystopian
  12. A scifi featuring conscious technology

This challenge will run from January 1st to December 31st 2026 and you can enter at any time.

#AtoZChallenge 2026
April Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2026 SIGN-UP March 24-April 5

Also I'm also participating in this year's April A-Z Blogging Challenge. In 2025 every day (except Sunday) I posted one book review for each letter of the alphabet. This year I'll be mixing it up by posting A-Z bookish discussions. Your blog posts don't have to be bookish though, they can be any theme as long as it's A-Z.

And finally, every year on Goodreads they host a challenge to set a goal for the number of books you can read in a year. Every year I set a goal for 12 books, but I believe I surpassed that goal two years in a row, and I'd like to increase that number. So in 2026 I'm challenging myself to read at least 15.

Are you participating in any reading or blogging challenges in 2026?
