The Sunday Post

Happy Sunday! I hope you are all having a great weekend!

The Sunday Post is a weekly news meme hosted by The Caffeinated Reviewer. I'll be posting on the first Sunday of each month and I hope you'll join me.

We had thirteen rainy weekends in a row, but the weather gods must have been looking out for me because it all cleared up in time for my vacation. We had a perfect weekend followed by a heatwave, which was fine with me because we were at a scenic coastal town, enjoying the breeze off the ocean.

(This last photo isn't just a pretty view, it's an accurate depiction of the whale watch I went on.)

I'm not usually much for heatwaves, but I can't say I hated my lazy days at the beach; reading and swimming and reading some more. And even though there were no whales on my whale watch, it was a pretty nice boat ride.

And what was I reading? Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It will be my first review of July, so be sure to drop by tomorrow if you want to know more about it. I'm also pretty excited to say that Six of Crows  was my 12th book of the year, meaning I hit my GoodReads goal of 12 in half the time I thought I would. And then I flew by that with One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig, bringing my total this year up to 13.

My reviews for the month of June:

I'm working on my review for One Dark Window and it is going weirdly. There were things I didn't like right away so I started talking about those even though I largely found the story enjoyable. Now I have to explain why I liked it, too, and I probably should have started there.

My next book to read is Book of Night by Holly Black; my initial impressions of the first 10 pages is it's probably going to be a fun ride.

What are you reading this weekend?

  3. I'm happy you had a great vacation. I finally finished Stephen King's "A Fairy Tale." King is always verbose (why say in 100 words when 500 will do?), but I always enjoy his writing.

  4. I bought Six of Crows and plan to read it. Sometime. I just finished my audio ARC of The Woman in Suite 11 by Ruth Ware. It had lots of twists and turns to jerk me around emotionally.

    1. I love those kind of books, the emotional roller coaster rides. but i don't know if I'm just a tough nut to crack, or if those kinds of authors are just rare.
